A Kids’ Birthday Party on the Boat
Three hours, a fish for every kid, dolphins on the way and an island stop for shark teeth. The party they will talk about at school.
A birthday on the boat is three hours of catching fish, seeing dolphins and standing on an island, and it ends with a kid who caught something and five others who want to come back. It is built on our Kids Fishing Adventure, the short trip we designed so children are catching rather than waiting, and it runs from Sebastian Inlet, twenty minutes from Melbourne Beach and Vero Beach.
How the Party Runs
We meet at the ramp, get everyone in a life jacket and go. The first stop is calm, shallow water inside the lagoon where the fish are small, plentiful and not fussy — trout, snapper, jacks, catfish — so every child gets a bend in the rod in the first half hour. Captain Richard baits, casts, unhooks and coaches; the kids reel. Along the way there are dolphins most days, manatees in the cooler months, rays and birds. If the group wants to stretch their legs we stop at a spoil island for shark teeth before heading back. Three hours is the right length: long enough to feel like a trip, short enough that nobody melts down.
Who It Suits
Ages roughly five to twelve are the sweet spot, though we have taken younger with a parent beside them. The boat holds six people including adults, so a typical party is the birthday child, two or three friends and one or two parents. Bigger groups can run two boats with a partner captain.
What Is Included and What to Bring
Included: rods, tackle, bait, fishing licences for everyone aboard, life jackets in kids’ sizes, and cleaning of anything you keep.
Bring: sunscreen, hats, water, snacks, and the cake if you want to do candles on the boat — we have cooler space. Water shoes if you want the island stop.
Timing: mornings are coolest and calmest for small children. Ask for an 8am start.
Booking
The Kids Fishing Adventure is $495 for up to four people aboard, $75 for each extra to six. A $100 deposit holds the date. Tell Captain Richard the birthday child’s name and age when you book and he will plan the stops around them. If the weather turns, we move the date rather than run a bad day with children aboard. Book the Birthday Trip
Every trip is private — just your group on the boat, up to six guests. Tell Captain Richard Ladrew your dates and roughly what time of day suits you. He is on the water most days and gets back to you the same day. A $100 deposit holds the date and comes off the total.
